Knowsley’s twinning and friendship success

Did you know that Knowsley is twinned with Stadt Moers in the Federal Republic of Germany?

Knowsley's formal twinning agreement with Stadt Moers was signed in 1980, and since then civic, education and leisure visits have taken place each year. Moers was selected as an ideal partner for Knowsley because of the number of similarities between the two towns including size, socio-economic conditions and constitution.

Knowsley also has a friendship agreement with Nanning in China, which encourages friendships and promotes an understanding of different cultures. Nanning is a prosperous industrial region with a population of almost 6.5million. The friendship agreement sets out the commitment of the two communities to develop and maintain successful links in areas such as education and economic development.

Our twinning relationship and friendship agreement are a great advantage to the people of Knowsley. Summer camps are planned for some Chinese and Knowsley pupils, giving children a rare opportunity to experience a new culture.

These relationships have enriched the lives of young people and local businesses throughout the borough.
